One of the most influential acts in the history of popular music, Tangerine Dream virtually invented the sound of the late 20th century, and beyond. This collection brings together all their early albums, from 1970’s "Electronic Meditation" to "Atem", alongside their single "Ultima Thule", and even the legendary pre-TD single by the Ones from 1966.

Be it by strange incident or by marketing concept: the box Nebulous Dawn, released in summer 2006, comes with a name quite similar to the most recent TD album Blue Dawn. But this box features the complete four early TD albums from the 'Pink Years' era, plus two rare single releases, collected on the three CDs, and its name derives from one of this set's compositions. Disc one features both the full length albums Electronic Meditation (1970) and Alpha Centauri (1971); disc two contains the double album Zeit (1972), while disc three combines the album Atem (1973) with the two single releases Ultima Thule (1972) and Lady Greengrass/Love Of Mine (1967).
 
			
While the four albums were widely available and have been re-released again and again over the years, the single Ultima Thule was a much rarer item. Lady Greengrass/Love Of Mine on the other hand is not a release by Tangerine Dream but the one and only single by the short-lived beat band The Ones, of which Edgar Froese was member in 1967. Especially the two tracks of this single release were hard to find and released on CD only as part of some beat compilations.
 
			
Hence this collection is a great opportunity to collect the (almost complete) official material from the very early days of Tangerine Dream (and its predecessor The Ones) for a very reasonable price. The only flaw of this nice collection is the absence of the track Oszillator Planet Concert, a rare live recording from 1971 that was announced to be part of this set. Probably due to copyright issues this track had to be removed from the final track list, which is a shame as this composition has never been published on an official CD release so far.
 
			
Leaving this issue aside, Nebulous Dawn is a very well-made set. It comes in a simple cardboard box with nice, appropriate spacey cover artwork. Each of the three CDs is contained in a single slim CD box with an individual paper insert featuring the track listing (which is free of errors with the exception of Klaus Schulze's name misspelled as Shulze) and information about the original release of the respective tracks. Additionally the box contains a 12-page booklet with a number of photos featuring the line-up Edgar Froese/Chris Franke/Peter Baumann, the cover photos of the original albums (but not the singles) and a 5-page biographic essay by David Wells covering the years 1968 to 1973.

Once again, Tangerine Dream's early years are given the compilation treatment for the umpteenth time. This time around, they are compiled into a three disc collection entitled "Nebulous Dawn" (after a track from the band's third album "Zeit").
Tangerine Dream's first four albums are included in their entirety on this set and showcase the band's relentless strife for experimentation. "Electronic Meditation" is TD's 1970 debut album and features the line-up of founder Edgar Froese, Klaus Schulze and Conrad Schnitzler in a freaked-out psychedelic free-for-all complete with feedback and acid-soaked jamming.
The second album "Alpha Centauri" finds Christopher Franke and Steve Schroyder replacing Schulze and Schnitzler and also marks the beginning of the band's use of synthesizers.
"Zeit" marks the beginning of the first classic TD line-up of Froese, Franke and Peter Baumann. The album was also the first to be considered a major classic amongst fans and was a pioneering effort for ambient and space music.

This early period of Tangerine Dream ended with 1973's "Atem", an album that experimented with tribal rhythms, gothic-style organs, nature sounds and otherworldly weirdness.
While all four of the early TD albums are excellent in their entirety, this CD set as a whole has wound up being a bit disappointing. For starters, although both parts of the ultra-rare "Ultima Thule" single are included here as bonus tracks, the version of Part 1 is the same remix that originally appeared in the "Antique Dreams" compilation as well as the recent "Alpha Centauri" reissue. The original version still has yet to make it to CD and once again, proves to be another missed opportunity.
Also, while the rare live track "Oscilator Planet Konzert" was originally listed as being a part of this collection, it is absolutely nowhere to be found anywhere here. Because this track is a sought-after item amongst TD collectors, its inclusion here would have been a vital ingredient. One can't help but wonder why such a rarity was left off after being planned as part of the original release of this collection. Anticipation followed by disappointment.
However, the missing track is somewhat made up for by the inclusion of the original single by Edgar Froese's pre-TD band The Ones.
Like "Ultima Thule" and "Oscilator Planet Konzert", The Ones' single is a sought-after collectors item amongst TD fans. This collection marks the first ever CD release of these two tracks.
"Lady Greengrass" is a psychedelic flower-power piece with fantasy-like lyrics and a reference to Froese's future as represented by the lyric "the grass is Tangerine, the sky is suddenly green" (although TD actually got their name from the lyric "Tangerine Trees" in The Beatles "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds").
The B-side "Love of Mine" is a funky soul number with a slight James Brown influence complete with a gritty sax riff.
The CD booklet includes a well-written essay on Tangerine Dream's early years by David Wells as well as some rare photos of the band from the same period (mostly 1972-73).

All of the music included here is excellent and is some of the most innovative and pioneering music to come out of the experimental German music scene in the early '70s. The only drawback with the recent "Nebulous Dawn" collection is the above-mentioned missing rarities and an overall incomplete feel of the entire package. Apart from this, this is a very affordable introduction to Tangerine Dream's early years and is an ideal place to start especially for the complete early albums.

This three CD compilation assembles the whole works from the first four TD albums, otherwise known as the Pink era, which is hardly their better known, but certainly their more adventurous one. The collection is presented with an original spacey artwork and an excellent booklet retracing the band’s early days

Not much surprise in the track listing as the first two albums are condensed into one disc (my favourite), Zeit (the double Lp) is holding the second disc in full, the third is dedicated to Atem and a few bonus tracks of uneven interest. Those bonus tracks are unfortunately not presented in a chronological order as they should’ve fit on the first disc, but with two full albums on that one (filling it to the brim), this was the only place to fit them. The Lady Greengrasss/Love Of Mine single (forgettable and rather inappropriately placed) should’ve come before the Electronics Meditations while the two-part Ultima Thule single (outstanding and finally fully released) was released prior to Alpha Centauri and is closely linked to it.

For those wishing an easy intro to TD, this collection is not really suited, however if you are well aware of the group’s career, this set might just be for especially because it contains the rare Ultima Thule single (if you can believe TD released one of those) essential if you do not own the separate albums. One downside though is that you’ll have to upload the album’s artworks (as they are not shunned but reduced to their simpler expression), especially the stunning Zeit artwork. While I would not say that these bonus tracks are worth the price alone, they will make most fans hesitate.

Simply put, this box set is a reissue of Tangerine Dream's first four albums. Nebulous Dawn: The Early Years includes Electronic Meditation (Ohr, 1970); Alpha Centauri (Ohr, 1971); the double-disc Zeit (Ohr, 1972), and Atem (Ohr, 1973). Also enclosed in the three-disc package are the A- and B-sides of the single "Ultima Thule" (in two parts), released in February of 1972, and lastly, the very beginning of Edgar Froese's first band the Ones. Their only single, "Lady Greengrass" b/w "Love of Mine" from Star Club Records was released in June of 1967. It's forgettable. Packaged and sold by Sanctuary, the editions of these albums -- none of them split-up, thank goodness -- are the remastered ones from 2002. They do not contain original artwork, but there is a booklet in the set with a lengthy essay by David Wells that makes them well-worth the purchase price. If you've ever wondered what this band sounded like during their most adventurous stage, the way they developed their sound, and the sheer sonic paranoia, terror, and beauty they were capable of, this is a very wise investment indeed.

Robbie Williams' Rudebox was one of the most enjoyable records of his career,
but it wasn't a commercial success. Its follow-up, Reality Killed the Video
Star, attempts to right the ship, and as such, it becomes everything its
predecessor was not. Recorded with a single producer, the estimable Trevor Horn,
but encompassing songs and sessions with a variety of writing partners (Guy
Chambers and Soul Mekanik, among others), the songs sound rushed and the
performances lackluster. Given an MOR blockbuster production by Horn, and with
arrangements by his longtime co-writer Anne Dudley, Reality Killed the Video
Star certainly has the sound it needs to succeed with Williams' aging audience
and clean up on BBC Radio 2. Granted, Robbie Williams is an excellent ballads
singer, well-suited for this grandiose backing, but unfortunately the lyrics
don't stand up to the pressure. "Blasphemy" has the worst offenders, beginning
with "What's so great about the great depression?/Was it a blast for you? 'Cause
it's blasphemy." One song later, Williams declares "This is a song full of
metaphors," then fills it with a chorus beyond mindless: "Do, ooh ooh, ooh, ooh
ya mind/If I, I-I, I, I, I-I-I touch you?" At least the album is front-loaded
with quality, beginning with "Morning Sun," the best and most deeply felt song
on the album. Apparently written after the death of Michael Jackson, it begins
with a classic example of the taken-two-ways lyric: "How do you rate the morning
sun." Second is "Bodies," the first song to be released from the album, and it's
the last glimpse of clear quality and inventiveness on the entire album. Reality
Killed the Video Star may not be a denouement for Robbie Williams; it's not
decidedly worse than 2002's Escapology, it's just bad in a different way.
Whereas Escapology found Robbie disappearing into his own neuroses, this one is
a hopeless mélange of satire and sincerity where, from song to song, neither can
immediately be distinguished.

 Special Agent Strahm is dead, and Detective Hoffman has emerged as the 
 unchallenged successor to Jigsaw's legacy. However, when the FBI draws

 Main reason for proper is that kartel release does not play in most stand
 alone players. Kartel blanked buttons but left unused menu cells. Also Kartel
 decided to leave 27 VTS sets for some reason when the movie only needs one.
 On top of that with all those extra VTS sets they decided to leave all the 
 unreferenced audio. This proper has higher bitrate....all unused cells and 
 unreferenced audio has been removed. All special features have been stripped
 with all DD 2.0 commentary as well. Let's do it right next time please!!!!
